Bob Rickmyre 50 years later:

After graduating from Father Lopez High School in 1962, I raised my right hand and joined the U.S. Army.

In 1965, upon returning to Daytona Beach, I became an Ocean Lifeguard for Volusia County.

In 1973, Gay Elaine Tufarolo, a Seabreeze High School grad, and I were married. We have two kids. Donnie, our son, manages information systems, and Jamie, our daughter got her PhD in Cell and Developmental Biology at Vanderbilt and does research at their medical center (Sister Paula would be proud).

After a 28 year career with Volusia County as a lifeguard and later a deputy sheriff, I retured for a short time before taking a job with Stetson University as interim director of Campus Security while my daughter obtained her undergraduate degree.

I am now fully retired and have time to reflect, in today's terms, on the value of our Catholic education. The great classmates and teachers at the old Madison Avenue FLHS campus will not be forgotten.
