I graduated from St. Vincent's Hospital School of Nursing, Jacksonville, Fl.
Hired by University of Florida Health Center in Gainesville then Halifax Hospital in Daytona Beach as an Operating Room Nurse.
Married (classmate) John McCarthy...46 years ago (but, then, who's counting) and moved to Orlando when John was hired by IBM. We later moved to Poughkeepsie, NY. (Met James Cagney at the local hospital!!! Interesting!), then on to Atlanta, Ga. (both moves thanks to IBM).
I stayed home and raised our boys while John traveled around the world fixing IBM computers. Then I was hired by IBM and worked through the ranks to management and took an early retirement package after 10 years.
I returned to nursing, having been away from the profession for 26 years. Took a refresher program and was hired by Piedmont Hospital (the Atlanta Braves hospital) in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). I worked there for 6 years until John and I retired and moved back to Daytona.
Presently, I volunteer at Florida Hospital and am on the Auxiliary Executive Board of Directors to the hospital. I also volunteer as a Minister to the Sick, a Eucharistic Minister of Holy Communion and a mass lector at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Ormond Beach.
We have two great sons, Scott Andrew and Keith Patrick. Scott is single and is in Human Resources in San Diego, Ca. Keith is a CPA working for an international software company in Houston, Tx. He is married and gave us two beautiful grand-daughters, Erin and Brianna. Our daughter-in-law, Tiffany, is graduating from nursing school in December.
Last but not least is our 10 year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Tess, who rules the McCarthy household with an iron paw.
We are fortunate to travel a couple of times a year and really enjoy European river cruises. Next year, we're planning to cruise from St. Petersburg to Moscow along the Volga-Baltic Waterway. Fun!!!
