MCMAHON, O.P. SR. EILEEN - Sr. Eileen McMahon O.P., formerly Sr. Mary Alphonsus, a member of the Sisters of St. Dominic of Blauvelt, New York for the past 68 years died on November 11, 2000 in St. Dominic's Convent, Blauvelt . Sister was 87 years of age.

Sr. Eileen was born to Hugh McMahon and Mary Etta Young McMahon on June 10, 1913 in Chicago, Illinois. She entered the Sisters of St. Dominic on August 15, 1932 from the parish of St. Nicholas of Tolentine in the Bronx, New York. Sr. Eileen received the Dominican Habit on March 7, 1933 , professed her first vows on March 8, 1934 and her perpetual vows on March 8, 1937. Sisters Eileen's many years of active ministry were devoted to the education of youth as an elementary and secondary school teacher.

She taught in Holy Cross School, New York City from 1934-1940; and in the following schools in the Bronx, New York; St. Luke's School, 1940-1944; St. Plus School, 1944-1951; St. Anselm's School, 1951-1953; and St. Nicholas of Tolentine. Sister also taught in Father Lopez High School, Daytona Beach, Florida 1953-1967 and 1973-1974; Our Lady of the Blessed Academy, Goshen, New York, 1967-1970; St. Anthony School, Oceanside, New York, 1970-1971; Dominican College, Blauvelt, New York, 1971 -1972; Sr. Eileen was a member of the House Prayer (H.O.P.e.) in Goshen, New York, 1974-1976 and a member of the Secretarial Staff at St. Dominic's Convent, Blauvelt, New York, 1976-1978. She served as a parish minister in the following parishes; Holy Spirit Parish, Bronx, New York 1978-1979; St. Joseph's East Rutherford, New Jersey, 1979-1984 and in St. Martin De Porres, Poughkeepsie New York 1984-1986.

Sister Eileen volunteered at Sacred Heart Parish, Bronx New York from 1986-1993 and at St. Dominic Convent, Blauvelt from 1993 until her death. Sister Eileen held the B.A. in Liberal Arts from Manhattan College and the M.S. in Guidance from Fordham University. In addition to her religious congregation, Sr. Eileen McMahon is survived by her sister Alice Sullivan of Jackson, CA, her niece Irene Vining of Ship Bottom, New Jersey and grand nieces and grand nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters Mary Brooks, Katherine Gehr, Elizabeth Disimile and her brothers Rev. Maurice McMahon, Brother Paul McMahon, Hugh, Joseph and John. Relatives and friends can attend services at; St. Dominic Convent, 496 Western Highway , Blauvelt, New York. Wake Monday November 13 from 2 PM until 8 PM. Evening Prayer Monday November 13 at 6:30 PM. Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday November 13 at 10:30 AM. Burial immediately following Mass in the convent cemetary. . In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Sisters of St. Dominic of Blauvelt, NY.
